Creating the Digital Ecosystem for Active Rooftops
Work Package 3 focuses on the digitalisation of aRTes innovations through the development of integrated digital tools, collaborative design platforms, digital twins and intelligent decision-support systems. By combining advanced ICT technologies with rooftop data, WP3 aims to make rooftop retrofitting more accessible, transparent and scalable for cities, building owners and communities across Southern Europe.
Building the aRTes Rooftop Dataspace
A major achievement of WP3 is the development of the Holistic Rooftop Dataspace Integration Middleware, which serves as the technological backbone of the aRTes digital ecosystem.
The middleware enables the integration and synchronization of rooftop data, digital twins, maps, sensors and platform services within a single environment. By connecting multiple digital components through interoperable APIs, the system supports data processing, visualization and real-time information exchange across the project.
This integrated architecture creates a scalable foundation for future rooftop applications while ensuring that rooftop data can be effectively reused and shared among stakeholders.
Collaborative Rooftop Design Platform
WP3 is also developing a Collaborative Rooftop Design Tool, allowing users to create, evaluate and compare rooftop retrofit scenarios through a dynamic co-design process.

The system is designed to support transparent decision-making while incorporating community perspectives and local requirements throughout the planning process.
Smart Monitoring and Rooftop Management
To support long-term operation and evaluation, WP3 is creating tools for safe rooftop planning, monitoring and management.
These applications will collect and organise operational data from rooftop assets, enabling users to manage reservations, monitor rooftop activities and assess socio-technical impacts. The digital infrastructure developed within the work package also supports future integration with sensors, monitoring systems and other smart-city technologies.
Developing Interactive Rooftop Digital Twins
Another key innovation within WP3 is the creation of interactive 3D Digital Twins for selected pilot rooftops.
The first virtual pilot has been developed at Fonderie Ozanam in Turin, where a detailed Matterport 3D scan has been transformed into a navigable digital environment. The digital twin allows users to explore the rooftop in its current state ("As-Is") and compare it with future retrofit scenarios ("To-Be").

Artificial Intelligence for Simplified Legal Navigation
WP3 is also pioneering the development of an AI-powered Rooftop Legislation Expert, designed to simplify access to complex rooftop regulations.

Unlike general-purpose AI systems, the aRTes assistant is grounded in verified regulatory and technical documentation, ensuring reliable and traceable responses. The prototype is currently operational and is being expanded to include knowledge from multiple countries participating in the project.
